The do's and don't's to a pregnant woman
During both my pregnancies I was stunned on many occasions around pregnancy etiquette. By this I mean, the ‘do’s and don’ts of words and actions to a pregnant woman. I’m a pretty out there kind of person and even I know when enough is too much. This blog is really for all the expectant mummies out there who know someone who doesn’t know what ‘inappropriate’ means or this person finds that words come out of their mouth before the filter that normal people have has kicked in. Send them this link anonymously and hopefully they’ll get the picture.

Growing up in a very Colombian and Catholic family which didn’t assimilate very well into Australian society has made me into a person who has always been fascinated and intrigued by other cultural and religious practices. How cultures and religions manage pregnancy and child birth is particularly interesting to me. Here are few interesting practices that happen around the world:

The female body undergoes so many physiological changes during pregnancy, it boggles the mind. For the lucky ones, you put on only the baby weight, your hair and skin glow, you don’t experience any morning sickness and you shoot out bub in a matter of hours returning to your pre pregnancy body within a couple of days (yes, there are people like this out there!!). For the unlucky ones, you only realise you are pregnant because suddenly out of nowhere you feel the urge to vomit at the most unsuspecting thing, your hair goes dull, your skin break outs, your so

Breastfeeding is natural and one of the most amazing things mothers can experience and do for their baby. We all read and hear about the benefits of breastfeeding. I don’t think the benefits are in question. But what happens when you just can’t breastfeed? Physiologically we are made to do it. If you have the ‘equipment’, then of course you should be able to breastfeed. But sometimes it’s just not that easy!

It’s hard to believe that Easter is only around the corner! Easter eggs are EVERYWHERE! If you are anything like me during my second pregnancy, you are eating chocolate faster than the speed of light! Stop! I urge you! I know, it’s easier said than done but if the thought of endless, sleepless nights with a crying colicky baby is an experience you would prefer to avoid, then then trust me.

Before I had my girls, I had only ever heard from my ‘mummy’ friends how bad labour was. I never quite got ‘all’ the details if you know what I mean, but I also never heard how wonderful it could be. I knew that if I had a vaginal birth the pain would be horrendous and if I needed to have a caesarean, there was no point in getting upset about it, as long as my baby was healthy. Deep down inside, I wondered whether I had it in me to go the whole way and avoid taking anything to assist

Is it just me or is every other new mother a little sick about reading how quickly Beyoncé has whipped herself into shape after the birth of her baby girl only a nano second ago? Great if this has occurred naturally but I’m betting a whole lot of sweat, pain and assistance of umpteen nannies, personal trainers and not to mention ‘egg white only’ omelettes have been involved. I’m definitely the first to profess being fit and healthy are what we should aim for, but I also like to live by my own mantra “everything in moderation”. And this applies to

I came across a book written for Expectant Fathers called “How to make a pregnant woman happy”. I think back to both my pregnancies and I’m not sure this would have been possible! The book was authored by men though, Dr Reiss and Y Reiss. There is no mention of chocolate, or 24 hour a massage therapist on hand so I'm not sure how accurate this book is!
